Silverfin provides a variety of templates, but sometimes, you may need to create a custom text template—such as an engagement letter—to suit your firm's specific needs. This guide walks you through the process of creating, editing, and managing text templates at both company and firm levels.

How to create a text template on a file level
Go to a File: Open any file in Silverfin.
Navigate to the Documents Section: Click on ‘Documents’ in the menu.
Create a New Text Template:
- Click on 'Action' button and choose ‘New text’ to start a new document.
- Choose 'empty text' and create a content.
- Save the text.
Preview the Output: The advantage of creating a text template at the file level is that you immediately see the output of your code, since actual file data is available.
How to make a text template available on a firm level
Once you have created a custom text template at the file level, you can make it available across the firm:
- Convert to a Firm-Level Template:
- Open the text template and go to ‘Actions’.
- Select ‘Create template’.
- Save and Lock the Template:
- We will copy your template to the firm level, making it available for all users at the file level.
- You will find the custom text templates in the section 'Permanent texts.
- To maintain consistency, lock the template at the firm level so that any future updates are automatically applied to all file-level instances.
- To lock the template open it and tick the box "`Locked'.
